A man feeding cows

The Melvenpakkam Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple, which is believed to be ancient and dates back to the four yugas, is a sacred place held in high reverence by Maha Periyava. It is one of the very few temples in India dedicated exclusively to Sri Mahalakshmi. As per the divine words of Sri Maha Periyava, chanting the Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam once in the Gosala (cow shelter) at this temple yields the same spiritual benefit as chanting it a crore (10 million) times elsewhere. Since Sri Thayar (Goddess Lakshmi) is the presiding deity here, the Gosala is considered especially holy. Currently, the Gosala houses 20 cows along with their calves, all of which are cared for with great devotion and effort. An old religious publication mentions that offering cows (Go-danam) and protecting them (Go-rakshanam) at this temple effectively removes Pitru Dosha (ancestral afflictions). Because of this, many cows have been donated here, and we could not turn them away. We are doing our best to maintain these cows in a healthy environment and to provide them with the proper and timely nutrition they require.

Every month, approximately ₹90,000 is required for the maintenance and care of the cows. Those of us who understand the greatness of Maha Periyava’s statement  “Wherever a Gosala exists, that very place is a sanctum sanctorum (garbhagruha)” — truly recognize the sacredness of maintaining such a space.

If all of us who are able can contribute ₹1,000 every month towards the Gosala service by depositing it in the temple's bank account, it would greatly help in maintaining the cows with healthier and greener feed. Although ₹1,000 a month may seem like a big commitment, let us consider it as joyfully spending on our children’s favorite food, and instead offer it with the prayerful thought of caring for Gomata, who is no less than the mother who gave us birth.

One of the slokas in which Sage Chyavana extols the glory of the cow states:

"In whichever land cows breathe peacefully in their herds without fear of harm, that very land becomes free from all sins and shines with divine radiance."

Every Friday, during the Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Parayanam held at the Goshala, arrangements have been made to perform sankalpam (dedicatory prayer) in your name and the names of your family members. Prasadam will also be sent to you on special days of your choice, such as your wedding anniversary, children’s birthdays, or any other significant occasion you desire.

It is recorded that Bhagavan Sri Ramana once told a devotee suffering from cancer that "Even the afflictions (doshas) troubling a family for 64 generations will be removed by simply caring for a single cow (Gomata).

After being served by a very wealthy person, Bhagavan Sri Yogi Ramsuratkumar of Tiruvannamalai is said to have remarked to those around him - "The cow service (Go Kaingaryam) that he has been doing over many lifetimes is what has elevated him to such great heights in this birth, and we are now witnessing its beauty.

The great scholar Rajaji (C. Rajagopalachari) once wrote: "Even if a person misses the chance to perform other services in life, if the opportunity for Go Kaingaryam (cow service) arises, he should hold on to it firmly. That alone will support him and his lineage for seven generations."

Cow
Remedy for the removal of all kinds of doshas

It is due to the doshas (afflictions) present in one's horoscope that obstacles such as delays in marriage, lack of harmony in marital life, and difficulties in conceiving children occur.

Cow and Calf

According to the instruction of a highly revered Mahatma, those who suffer due to the above-mentioned doshas (afflictions) are advised to stay for three days and offer service (kaingaryam) at the Melvenpakkam Gosala. This is considered a supreme and unparalleled remedy.

Just like serving our own mother, we must bathe the sacred bodies of the cows and clean the place using cow urine (gomiyam) and cow dung. The touch and fragrance of gomiyam and cow dung are so purifying that even severe diseases like cancer are believed to leave our body.

Moreover, the very touch of the breath of cows and their gaze upon us have the divine power to remove even the most severe and harmful afflictions present in our horoscopes.

One can stay within the temple premises and partake of prasadam three times a day at the Thirumadappalli. All necessary facilities for a comfortable stay are available.

At the end of the three-day service (kaingaryam), a sanctified picture of Perumal along with Perumal prasadam will be given. Prior registration is mandatory for those who are interested!
